Code of Conduct
Bakersfield SouthWest Baseball (BSWB) is a PONY Baseball League that services over two-thousand (2,000) children annually. With a competitive league comes a competitive spirit within our coaching, player and parent/fan ranks.
To assure that this competitive spirit remains a constructive and positive spirit, the BSWB Board of Directors has adopted codes of conduct for Coaches, Players and Parents/Fans. The coaches are asked to sign their Code of Conduct prior to the season, during registration. Parents are also asked to electronically sign their name to their registration form, signifying that they and their player understand the Codes of Conduct and will abide by them during the course of the season. The Board firmly believes that these codes are a necessary tool to assure that all participants have an enjoyable experience with our league.
We believe that athletic competition of BSWB players should be fun and should also be a significant part of a sound educational program, embodying high standards of ethics and sportsmanship, while developing good character and other important life skills. Those who coach are, first and foremost, teachers who have a duty to assure that their sports programs impart important life skills and promote the development of good character. Essential elements of character building are embodied in the concept of sportsmanship and six core ethical values: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and good sportsmanship. Sincere and good faith efforts to honor the words and spirit of this Code will improve the quality of our programs and the well-being of our players.
